This project involved the transformation of a tired detached property located on the edge of expansive parkland and wooded grounds, bringing a fresh, contemporary aesthetic to the home while maximizing its connection to the natural environment. The redesign focused on reorganizing the interior spaces to create a light, airy, and open-plan living arrangement, with a strong emphasis on improving circulation and creating a sense of flow throughout the property.
The project made subtle but impactful external alterations, including resizing existing window openings to better frame the surrounding views, and infilling a small undercroft area, creating additional usable space. These modifications were carried out in a way that preserved the property’s character while subtly modernizing its exterior.
The most significant intervention was the relocation of the original staircase, which dramatically improved the circulation and flow of the home. By repositioning the stairs, the design created an open-plan layout that integrates the living, kitchen, and dining areas, making the home feel more spacious and connected. A carefully placed rooflight above the new staircase floods the heart of the home with natural daylight, further enhancing the feeling of openness and brightness.
Internally, the project also included the addition of a new en-suite bathroom to the main bedroom, offering a luxurious retreat, as well as a full renovation of the family bathroom. Cosmetic improvements throughout the home, including updated finishes and modern fixtures, completed the transformation, bringing a contemporary edge to the property while maintaining a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The client, a graphic designer, played a key role in the project’s aesthetic direction, thoughtfully designing a vibrant, flower-filled garden space that complements the home’s contemporary feel. The new garden offers colorful views from the kitchen and dining areas, creating a seamless connection between the interior and the outdoors. The garden also provides a peaceful, private space for entertaining, blending design with nature and enhancing the home’s overall appeal.
This renovation successfully breathed new life into the property, creating a beautiful, modern home that is both functional and visually striking, all while respecting the natural beauty of its surroundings. The result is a serene and stylish retreat that maximizes light, space, and the connection between indoor and outdoor living.
